In summer 2017 I decided to plan and ride a solo cycling adventure. Plans had fallen through for another trip and I didn’t want to stay at home doing nothing.
Taking the train up to Penrith, in the Lake District, I would spend the next five days cycling back to Nottingham. I would do this via North Yorkshire, Leeds and the Peak District.
I knew the ride would not be easy. Taking the route I had planned meant going over a lot of hills! I’m not the strongest cyclist and with fully packed panniers, this was never going to be an easy task.

Solo Cycling Adventure:
When Life Gives You Lemons…Go On An Adventure – Planning the trip.
Solo Cycling Adventure Day 1: Penrith to Hawkshead – Arriving in the lakes and heading over Kirkstone Pass to YHA Hawkshead.
Solo Cycling Adventure Day 2: Hawkshead to Hawes – Leaving the Lake District for Yorkshire. Taking in some brutal climbs and having a lovely lunch with friends along the way.
Solo Cycling Adventure Day 3: Hawes to Leeds – Climbing out of North Yorkshire and heading down to the outskirts of Leeds and my best friend.
Solo Cycling Adventure Day 4: Leeds to Hope – A gruelling morning, climbing again and again in the wind and rain, before the trip comes to an abrupt end in the Peak District.
